A lot too late

It is beyond me as to why I didn’t start a real blog earlier. My fear of using bad grammar and not being able to captivate my experiences has held me back. I already regret not documenting previous adventures and I don’t want that to continue. I will try and make this an all inclusive blog: travels, artwork, bakery, friends, family, etc. I think I’ve also dreaded the back story and catching readers up to the who, what, when, where and why. So I’m going to skip that step though I’m sure little details will be filled in as time passes. I’m currently sitting in Linda’s kitchen, next to Sam and two freshly emptied bowls of rainbow sherbet, which were devoured on the back porch while looking out at the mountains and swinging in hammocks.

We’re sifting through Alaska photos and working on stop motions. Say Anything and Manchester Orchestra are on repeat.

We spent the last week further north in Anchorage and Denali. The late nights and sleeping in a moving RV lead to 12 hours of sleep last night. We woke up at 4:30 in the afternoon today and even though we’ve only been up for about 8 hours I think we’re going to head to bed. Our sugar intake is just going to lead to us giggling for an hour, unable to fall asleep. I’m tempted to stay awake and share photos from the last two weeks of Alaska exploring but I think we’re hiking tomorrow and I don’t want to be a zombie.  Hopefully my first entry is my shortest entry.

  1. You first post is amazing! This is your blog, wrong use of grammar or not whatever way you run this blog will be more appealing to people like your tumblr! [: Can’t wait for the next entry..

  2. Wow Charla, you inspire me a lot, really. Please follow your dreams and never stop doing this things! I’d love to make blog like this and follow your idea, but I need to travel more like you, and go deeper into photography. I wish you the best, and good luck with your bakery, I hope I will visit soon! (sorry, my english is too bad, i’m from Spain).

  3. So awesome that you’ve started an actual blog…maybe this will inspire me to do it…I kept a LiveJournal for the longest time, but I’ve kind of gotten away from writing…

    Looking forward to reading!

  4. So excited for this! Although I really loved your Tumblr I’m glad you decided to branch out into more of this kind of blogging. So are you going to drift away from Tumblr and use wordpress more often or…?

  5. Oh my, this is amazing! Can’t wait to see what you’ll be posting, you live the life I’d like to live (:
A blog is an amazing outlet, I have one myself and it’s very nice at times to just post.
    Good luck (:

  6. Yay! I’m really excited about you starting a blog. As the others have stated, I feel like we’ll get to know you a bit better through this source.
Do you feel like you’re going to be ready come time for 11.11.11?
I can’t wait to see what kind of stuff you produce when you get back from vacation. These “trips” seem to bring out the best in your artistic abilities. I love it!

  7. Popular instragammer, and first post on wordpress got freshly pressed. dayum girl! 😛
And please write a post all about Alaska, if you do feel up for it. ^^

  8. I consider myself late too. So i know how u feel 😦 Still, it is a beginning. I am sure you have a long way to go. Your first post, after all, got freshly pressed!!

  9. These is seriously your first post — and it gets Freshly Pressed? The Universe just said “hello,” indeed!

I, too, have a fascination with the messages “sent” by the universe. But my messages typically come in the form of dead squirrels. Seriously. 😉

Congrats to you…and best of luck.

  10. I’ve started so many blogs and left them trailed around the internet with one or two posts each. I’ve just started another one, and this post has really renewed my faith in blogging. It’s the back story that makes it scary, and I love that I know nothing about where you’ve been, only where you’re going. I’m rather regretting putting so much of my past into my first post, but I vow, here and now, not to start any more blogs. Just this one.

  11. I think you did well and I also think that short is sweet .. I find it hard to read really long posts all the time, too much time and often a little redundant 🙂

  12. I completely understand the sentiment of your first paragraph. I’ve been travelling for the last couple of years and am now kicking myself for starting to blog NOW. In any case, I really liked this post and thought maybe you’d like to look at some of mine:

its about my return to the Dominican Republic, quit my job, etc. to pursue a dream of going back to the DR and living life unplugged, and slower!

Ps I really like your pictures!

  13. Congrats on Freshly Pressed – on your first post! I too have just recently started my blog, and like you, I’ve been concerned with bad grammar, as well as filling in the backstory. It seems that we learn as we go along; I’m constantly looking at other blogs as ways to improve my own. Good luck to you, and enjoy what seems to be an amazing adventure!

  14. Congrats on being Freshly Pressed! Your views will go through the roof! It’s not just an every day occasion! If you are brand spanking new, click on the W on the black bar and click on Freshly Pressed and you will see where all of the excitement is about!

  15. Well, well congratulations my dear! You’ve been Freshly Pressed right out of the box! It is a wonderful post and I love the photos.
Been blogging for a few years myself and I manage to find things to write about and add a few back stories as I go. No biggie. As for grammar, seriously now, don’t let that deter you in any way. Tell us IN YOUR OWN WORDS what you have to say. Share what you want, make friends, comment. There is a huge world here in blog land. Welcome.

  16. It’s interesting that this past post was noticed and chosen to be featured. Very motivational for those of us “newbie bloggers”. Congrats on being Freshly Pressed! 🙂

  17. You look at my archive page, started 2005, roughly 30 posts per year then 2 in 2010, 2 in 2011, and 3 this year (so far). I started a new job and it took away my “blogging time”, I really miss writing about stuff and getting back into the swing is hard. So my suggestion is: DON’T STOP!

You’ve lovely sentimental writing and the world needs as much heart and love as it can get.

  18. Congratulations on your first blog and thank you for inspiring me (and so many others) who have left comments here. Amazing. Have a beautiful day and an outstanding journey, onwards… All best wishes, Michele

  19. Those shots are amazing! Good for you that you started blogging. As what those before me mentioned, this is your blog. You have the freedom to do what you want with it. Keep on blogging 🙂

  20. I think it’s so cool that you’re opening a bakery in Orlando as a creative outlet for people. Too bad I don’t live there; I’m sure I’d be a daily customer! You know, as long as you had free wi-fi. And good coffee. And blueberry muffins. Okay, that pretty much sums up my requirements. 😉 I hope y’all have fun in Alaska. The photo of the mountains is beautiful. It makes me want to run out to Tennessee for a long weekend. Look forward to reading more of your posts!

  21. Nice and articulate in keeping me reading your first blog. I will have to keep you on my follow list because your travels are going to be interesting for my reads. Thanks.

  22. I do accept as true with all the ideas you’ve introduced in your post.
They’re really convincing and will definitely work. Nonetheless, the posts are
very quick for beginners. May you please lengthen them a
little from next time? Thanks for the post.
